Former Parade award-winner enchants with Tuscan style, quality materials, stunning views
By Kate Jonuska
Best kitchen, best master suite, best interior design, best floor plan, best architectural exterior, most innovative, best overall, the coveted People’s Choice award — this custom Tuscan-themed rancher, called the Positano, swept the 2007 Parade of Homes awards, taking all but one trophy in its category. Opening a wrought-iron gate to a courtyard with a gurgling water feature and an impressive stone turret front porch, it’s obvious that the enchantment Parade goers sensed remains, charming visitors through the home’s solid alder front door.
“This was definitely the belle of the ball,” says Patti Farley-Barker of Rusinak Real Estate, who lists the six-bedroom, six-bath home in University Heights for $1.4 million. “It’s definitely a Tuscan feel, an Italian flavor, but with part of Colorado, too, which is very warm and welcoming.”
According to Farley-Barker, the beauty is all thanks to builder Randal Homes attention to detail, both in the use of quality materials and the thoughtful, artistic or useful touches sprinkled throughout the 5,738-square-foot showpiece.
From the entryway, shining 6-inch hickory floors flow through curving, almost organic hallways with earthy hand-troweled walls. Archways — sheathed in either custom, solid wood or travertine tile — lead between living spaces, creating an open and free-flowing floor plan. Custom crown molding highlights the high ceilings, and hidden lighting behind the woodwork casts a warming glow upwards, just one of many minor details that make the home extraordinary.
